day thirty – your favourite song at this time last year

This time last year I believe I had The Bahama’s album Pink Strat on heavy rotation.

…as well as the Amethyst’s album, Amethyst Amulet. I like Bumble Bee in particular…

…and Timber Tambre’s self titled album.

I can’t be sure if these were exactly a year ago or not…. but it’ll have to do.

day twenty nine – a song from your childhood

Sharon, Lois and Bram were big when I was a kid, and I had at least two of their albums on vinyl:

This was probably their biggest hit, and it was the theme song to their TV show. This is the Skinnamarink TV Theme!

day twenty eight – a song that makes you feel guilty

Damned if I know. But here’s a song called Guilty that I’ve always liked, sung by Russ Columbo:

…and also by Billie Holiday:

Superstition by Stevie Wonder – This is the song that has always made me wish I could play drums.

day twenty six – a song that you can play on an instrument

This is about as easy as it gets on guitar. Take it Easy by The Eagles.

day twenty five – a song that makes you laugh

Pretty much anything by Flight of the Conchords. Particularly Ladies of the World.

day twenty four – a song that you want to play at your funeral

There is a good chance that my death will be related to my famous clumsiness. If that happens, please play Oh Shit by The Pharcyde at my funeral.

day twenty three – a song that you want to play at your wedding

I’m not sure about the whole wedding thing, but I have always thought that Harvest Moon by Neil Young seemed like a totally appropriate wedding song.

Apparently I’m not the only one.

day twenty two – a song that you listen to when you’re sad

Oh dear, it must be a bad sign that it’s much easier for me to pick out song that I listen to when I’m sad than when I’m happy. Here are three!

Don’t Smoke in Bed by Nina Simone. (And her version of I Don’t Want Him but I couldn’t find a link!)

Everything Reminds Me of Her by Elliott Smith. Mostly everything by Elliott Smith, to be honest.

Everything Happens to Me by Chet Baker

I’m going to change this one to “songs that put you in a good mood.”

Back in the day when I worked at Starbucks and I had to open shop at 5:30am, I almost always put on some Bob Marley. Bob Marley rarely fails to cheer me up. Especially Small Axe.

It’s also in the “guilty pleasures” category but how can you not love I Want to Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Houston. It’s infectious! If you don’t love it, you’re probably not human.

Lastly, PYT (Pretty Young Thing) by Michael Jackson is a go to spontaneous dance party song.
